Trunk mounted and fed by a high amp alternator like what you are describing is exactly how a VMAX Charge Pump is intended to be used, but there are two very important factors to make this work safely.
- The positive feed from the alternator must also be connected in parallel with the primary battery under the hood for current sharing between the two batteries. Do NOT use an isolator between the batteries.
- This system will carry extremely high amperage, so using the correct gauge wire throughout is absolutely essential, with larger gauges required for longer runs to prevent voltage drop and overheating. Reference reputable wire gauge charts to ensure your installation meets the demands of your specific configuration for both safety and performance.
